Knala & Sustainability
Our Commitment to a Kinder Future
At Knala, sustainability isn’t a trend or a marketing badge. It’s about making thoughtful material and design choices that balance aesthetics, performance and responsibility - without overpromising or hiding trade-offs.
We focus on creating beautifully designed dog accessories that are made to be used, cared for and lived with, using materials chosen for durability, safety and a more considered lifecycle.
Thoughtful materials
We use 100% organic cotton across our core fabric components, sourced from GOTS-certified fabric suppliers. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers and supports more responsible farming practices compared to conventional cotton.
To prioritise safety, durability and washability, our fabrics are constructed without glue-based bonding or heavy chemical coatings. Instead, we rely on a more robust cotton weave and considered construction methods, rather than artificial surface finishes.
Our materials and finishes are tested to meet EU REACH and SVHC regulatory requirements, with restricted substances below regulated limits where applicable. Testing confirms our fabrics are free from detectable formaldehyde and azo dyes.
Because we choose natural fibres and limit chemical treatments, our fabrics will change with use. With regular wear and washing, colours may gradually soften and lighten over time - a normal characteristic of untreated textiles and part of choosing materials that are less persistent in the environment.
Innovation Worth Sharing
Together with our manufacturing partners, we’ve developed an alternative assembly method that removes the need for hidden glue-based bonding, reducing concealed plastics within our collars, leads and harnesses.
Rather than keeping this approach to ourselves, we chose not to sign a non-compete agreement, allowing other brands to adopt the same construction method if they wish. We believe progress comes from sharing practical improvements - not protecting them behind closed doors.
Our focus on considered materials, transparent sourcing and responsible construction is driven by everyday use, long-term durability and a more honest product lifecycle. Because real change happens when good ideas are shared.
Responsible Packaging
Our packaging is designed to be simple, functional and considered.
- Made in the UK
- Produced using 60–80% recycled content
- Fully recyclable
We avoid unnecessary plastics and excess materials and continue to review our packaging choices as better options become available.
Why We Manufacture in China
We choose to manufacture in China because it allows us to work with highly specialised factories that meet our strict standards for quality and sustainability. Finding equivalent expertise elsewhere - particularly for eco-friendly pet accessories - is a significant challenge and many local suppliers still outsource overseas at a higher cost.
While China’s environmental reputation has been mixed historically, many manufacturers today operate under strict regulations on material production, waste management and workplace standards. We work only with partners who meet these requirements and who share our values.
We also reduce our carbon footprint by partnering with couriers that offer low-emission delivery options and by sourcing all of our packaging within the UK.
For us, the right partners are the ones who uphold our standards - wherever they’re based.
Always Improving
Sustainability is an ongoing process, not a fixed destination. As Knala grows, we continue to review materials, construction methods and packaging, making improvements where they are meaningful and achievable.
We believe progress comes from honest choices, thoughtful design and continual refinement - not from claiming perfection.
